Erik Martens
Erik Martens is an independent expert on film. Throughout his career he took part in many different aspects of film culture in Belgium. He curated a film theatre (De Cinema, Antwerp, 2020-2023), coordinated a film school (KASK, School of Arts, Ghent, 2010-2014), was head of film culture at the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (2014-2020). At the Royal Belgian Film Archive, he was editor-in-chief of the dvds published by the house, author of a number of archive documentaries, and also in charge of the earliest digitization projects (2002-2014). From this period onwards he was a regular film commission member, later also in a Eurimages context. Before 2014 he was film critic / film journalist for different publications (De Standaard, Focus Knack, International Film Guide, Ons Erfdeel, The Low Countries, Streven, Staalkaart… ) and reviewed film for public radio station Klara. Erik Martens is the author of Grandma fell into the Radishes, ‘a concise history of home movie making in Belgium’ (2021). A second book (Land of Tomorrow) will be published shortly.
